The Instructions for How to Store Silicone Molds-Resin Mold Storage

Storing Molds

How to Perfectly Store Silicone Molds

If not stored correctly, silicone molds will lose their shape. It’s like throwing your money down the drain because once that happens you’re in for a crazy lopsided casting. Follow these storage tips for all of your resin molds so they won’t break down quicker than they have to.

Store Silicone Molds between Cardboard

Tip: If you want to create a much more efficient space, you can place some cardboard right on top of each mold to layer. This way, you will create additional storage space. Keep in mind to arrange the mold evenly when applying the next layer.

Keep Silicone Molds in a Dry Area

Another important tip that you should follow is to store the silicone molds in a dry, cool area. A place where they won’t be handled a lot.

Keep away from Direct Sunlight

Store molds in an area that is free from direct sunlight. Otherwise, the excessive heat might cause the silicone mold to quickly break down or warp.

Store molds with a Resin Casting

Let’s say you have completed your project, and you might not use the silicone mold for a while. Luckily, there is a solution: store a previous resin casting in the mold to keep its form. This works extremely well for molds that have unique shapes or carry a lot of detail.

Hot Tip: If you are dealing with an intricate mold shape, you can pour some warm candle wax into the mold before storing it, and then right before you need to use it; you can easily de-mold it.

No Piercing

Try not to pierce any holes in the mold or make any changes, otherwise, you might lose the initial shape.

As such, make sure you keep your Silicone molds in a single, flat layer. If you consider storing them in a pile, you might stretch them to where they become out of shape. Also, once the silicone mold warps, more than likely you cannot undo it.
